Birds of Sri Lanka - Kingfishers

Sri Lanka has seven species of Kingfisher, and we managed to see four of them.


White Breasted Kingfisher - by far the most common of the Sri Lankan kingfishers, (c50) seen over the two weeks. Almost all were seen away from water. 


Common Kingfisher - (c10)  


Stork-billed Kingfisher - an impressive beast standing 38cms tall. (3)   


Pied Kingfisher (c10) - almost always seen in pairs

Black Capped Kingfisher (rare), Blue-eared Kingfisher (very rare) and Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher were not seen.
