Bundala National Park is one of Sri Lanka's premier birding sites. August is not one of the best times to visit yet it was still fantastic. As dangerous animals such a crocodiles and elephant roam the reserve all birds can only be viewed from the safety of a safari jeep. We had one early morning birding safari for 3 hours. The pictures below are of just some of the birds seen. Definitely worth a visit.
Painted Stork
Yellow Bittern
Purple Swamphen
Stork-billed Kingfisher - very impressive at around 38 cms!
Black Winged Stilt
Purple Heron
Pheasant-tailed Jacana - never came very close
Croc
Eurasian Spoonbill
Black Tailed Godwit
Great Thick Knee
Jacobin Cuckoo
Darter
Indian Pond Heron
Gull Billled Tern
