California - more pics

Sea Otter - unlike a River Otter these beauties are much bigger at 1.2 metres in length - this was one of a handful found early morning in the harbour in Monterey.

Golden Mantled Ground Squirrel - not a chipmunk - thanks Ryan for the info

  1. Saw your albatross on Surfbirds. I think your "chipmunk" is in fact a Golden-mantled Ground Squirrel. Note in particular the lack of obvious stripes on the face.

  2. Thanks Ryan for the squirrel info. The albatross was my no 1 bird target for the trip from the UK so I was well pleased with that. In fact the whale watching as a whole was a fantastic experience.
