Red Necked Phalarope - King George Reservoir, Chingford, London
This afternoon I decided to brave the wet weather and venture just 10 miles to north London to see a Red Necked Phalarope. On site I was the only birder to be seen, so I thought finding a small bird in a very large reservoir, would be like finding a bit of hay in a giant stack of needles! So I very pleasantly surprised when I lifted up my binoculars and there it was was just 50 yards in front of me. I enjoyed good views, as it fed constantly and frenetically in typical phalarope style, before retreating soggily back to the dry of the car.
